This year for the first time, bakery manager John Day is bringing these same delectable treats to Autumn in the Woods. “You’ve gotta know how excited I was when Lana called to invite me to the festival.” John says. Peace Valley will be pressing cider apples in early September and John thinks cider by the cup will be thirst-quenching on a hot day. Apple dumplings are a must. “Some folks say they can make a meal of one dumpling topped with ice cream.” He knows he’ll have several kinds of pumpkin bread and pumpkin cookies along with pumpkin pie to eat on the grounds or take out. “I’m thinking about ways to package things so they’ll be easy for folks to carry,” John says. John is used to people buying quantities from his refrigerated supplies to put in their car at Peace Valley and take home immediately. For The Woods, he’s thinking dry ice to keep the ice cream firm and tubs of ice filled with pint bottles of cider instead of his home market gallons.
You will want to meet John Daly, a world-class baker, who knows the growing process, the changing produce seasons and the excitement of preparing foods with a freshness that can’t be matched by the chain stores. When you plan your route around the woods September 8 or 9, where quality antique furnishings and accessories share the grounds with antique tractors cars and all the activities that have made “Antiques in the Woods” so popular, now you can also think food. Think fresh from the field and orchard food. “I’ve waited 25-years and so you might say I’ll be realizing a life-long dream,” says John. Come to the Peace Valley Bakery at Autumn in the Woods and share his dream. Find the Orchard Bakery in the food area. © Copyright ShakerWoods.com |
